Migrate your store from PrestaShop to Shopify

We migrate your PrestaShop store to Shopify while it keeps selling. We translate combinations, features and modules into Shopify building blocks, migrate customers and orders, and redirect every URL so you don't lose your rankings.

This is for you if…

  • Every PrestaShop or module update makes you nervous
  • You pay for modules and hosting and the store is still slow
  • You run several stores with multistore and keeping them up is a mess
  • You want to switch platforms without losing what already ranks

What we migrate from PrestaShop

The data you need to sell on Shopify from day one.

  • Products with their combinations, images and stock
  • Customers, addresses and order history
  • CMS pages, blog and SEO metadata
  • 301 redirects for products, categories and pages

Combinations and features

PrestaShop combinations become Shopify variants, each with its price, reference and stock. Shopify works with a maximum of three options per product, so if your combinations use more attribute groups, we decide which ones become options and how to handle the rest. Features become metafields that show on the product page and can be used as filters.

Modules: what replaces them

We review every installed module. Payments, shipping, filters, basic SEO and many automations are covered by Shopify out of the box; others have reliable apps, and whatever is specific to your business we code into the theme.

PrestaShop multistore

If you use PrestaShop multistore for several countries or brands, Shopify offers two routes: one store with Shopify Markets, if the catalog is shared, or several stores when each brand needs its own catalog, design or team. We decide this before migrating.

How we migrate your PrestaShop store to Shopify

  1. PrestaShop inventory

Products, combinations, features, customers, orders, modules, languages, stores and every URL.

  2. Data, module and URL map

Which part of Shopify receives each piece of data, what replaces each module and where each URL points.

  3. Migration to a development store

We import the data and build the theme while PrestaShop keeps selling.

  4. V1 review

We check variants, prices, customers, orders and languages with you.

  5. Domain switch and follow-up

We go live, submit the sitemap and monitor indexing in Search Console.

Migrating from PrestaShop to Shopify with an agency

What changes when you move from PrestaShop to Shopify and how we handle what has no direct equivalent.

Why leave PrestaShop

PrestaShop gives you a lot of freedom, but that freedom has a cost: a server, version upgrades, paid modules that need renewing and aren't always compatible with the next version, and a theme that tends to pile up changes from several vendors.

On Shopify the platform updates itself, checkout is maintained by Shopify and many features that are modules in PrestaShop come built in.

From the PrestaShop catalog to Shopify

PrestaShop categories, which usually have several levels, become collections. Since Shopify collections can't be nested, the hierarchy is recreated in the menu and with automated collections based on conditions when the catalog is large.

Combinations become variants and features become metafields. With Shopify's Search & Discovery app those metafields can be used as collection filters, just like the faceted navigation you had before.

  • Categories to collections and menu
  • Combinations to variants
  • Features to metafields and filters
  • Brands and suppliers to vendor or metaobjects

Languages and multistore

If your PrestaShop store has several languages, we migrate the translations and manage them in Shopify with the Translate & Adapt app or whichever fits best. URLs for each language are redirected too, each one to its new version.

PrestaShop multistore is handled in Shopify with Shopify Markets, if it is one brand selling in several countries, or with several stores, if the brands or catalogs are different. On Shopify Plus those stores are managed within the same organization.

Customers, orders and SEO

We migrate customers with their addresses and order history and respect their marketing consent. Passwords can't be imported; with Shopify's new customer accounts, sign-in uses email and a one-time code, no password needed.

For SEO we extract every PrestaShop URL, including product URLs with IDs and each language version, and set up a 301 redirect for each one. We keep titles and descriptions and monitor indexing after the switch.

Frequently asked questions

What clients ask us most about prestaShop to Shopify migration.

Will my customers be able to sign in to their accounts?

Yes. We migrate their accounts with their history. Passwords can't be imported into Shopify, but with new customer accounts they sign in with their email and a one-time code.

What if my products have more than three attributes?

We choose the three options each product works with and handle the rest with metafields, separate products or customization on the product page, depending on how people buy.

Will I lose rankings when I leave PrestaShop?

Not if the redirects are done properly. We map every URL, including language versions, and keep your titles and descriptions.

How long will the store be unable to sell?

Practically no time at all. We set up Shopify in parallel and switch the domain at the time of lowest traffic.

What happens to my PrestaShop modules?

We review them one by one: many are covered by Shopify out of the box, others by an app, and whatever is specific to your business we code into the theme.

Are discounts and pricing rules migrated?

The rules are recreated in Shopify with automatic discounts or discount codes. If they depend on customer groups, we look at B2B on Shopify or customer segments.

Can I migrate several stores from my multistore setup?

Yes. We decide with you whether they become one store with Shopify Markets or several Shopify stores, based on catalog, brand and team.

Can I migrate and redesign at the same time?

Yes, and it is usually the most efficient option: the structure, data and SEO work is done only once.
