Shopify agency for brands based in Barcelona

Many Barcelona brands, local or international teams based in the city, sell in more than one language and to more than one country from day one. We hand-code Shopify stores that work in Catalan, Spanish and English, with prices, currencies and domains per market, without duplicating the store or paying for translation apps you don't need.

This is for you if…

  • You want your store in Catalan, Spanish and English without maintaining three websites
  • You sell, or want to sell, in other countries in Europe or beyond
  • Your current store translates with an app that hurts your SEO or breaks with every change

One store, several languages

Shopify lets you publish the store in several languages from the same admin. With the Translate & Adapt app, made by Shopify, you translate products, collections, pages, menus and theme text, by hand or with automatic translation that you then review.

  • Catalan, Spanish and English from the same store
  • Each language with its own indexable URL
  • A visible language selector with no page jumps
  • Metafields and metaobjects translated too

Shopify Markets for selling in other countries

Shopify Markets groups countries into markets and sets the language, currency, prices and domain or subfolder for each one. A customer in France sees the store in their currency and with their prices, and you manage everything from a single Shopify store.

Content adapted, not just translated

Translate & Adapt also lets you adapt content per market: one shipping message for mainland Spain and another for abroad, a promotion for one country only or a different banner image. We set it up so your team can maintain it.

International SEO from the start

Shopify generates hreflang tags between languages and markets. We take care of the rest: translated URLs, titles and descriptions per language and a sitemap Google can crawl without duplicates.

How we build a multilingual store for a Barcelona brand

  1. Language and market map

On the video call we decide which languages and countries you open now and which later, so the structure can handle growth.

  2. Fixed proposal

Scope, price and date in writing, including what gets translated automatically and which translations need to be prepared.

  3. Development on a test store

We build the theme with all text translatable and configure Markets and Translate & Adapt without touching your current store.

  4. Review by language

You review the V1 in each language and each market: prices, currency, shipping copy and checkout.

  5. Launch and training

We go live, check the URLs for each language and show you how to translate and adapt new content yourself.

Guide to selling in several languages and countries with Shopify

What to decide before opening your store in Catalan, English or other languages and starting to sell outside Spain.

Languages: what Shopify translates and what you translate

When you add a language, Shopify translates part of the system text out of the box, such as much of the checkout and notifications in the languages it supports. Your products, collections, pages, menus, metafields and theme text are your own content and are translated with Translate & Adapt or another translation app.

That's why the theme matters: if text is hard-coded, it can't be translated from the admin. We code the theme so every visible string is translatable.

  • Theme text in locale files
  • Product pages and collections translated per language
  • Menus and legal pages in each language
  • Order emails reviewed in each language

Markets: currency, prices and domains

In Markets, each market groups one or more countries. For each one you choose the language, the currency, whether prices are converted automatically or set by you, and whether it is served on a subfolder of the same domain or on its own domain.

Subfolders concentrate the SEO authority of a single domain and are the easiest to maintain; a domain per country makes sense when the brand is already known there under that domain.

Shipping, taxes and returns outside Spain

Selling abroad changes shipping, delivery times and taxes. We set up shipping rates and zones per market and make each country's delivery times and return conditions clear in the store.

Taxes and customs in each country depend on your situation and where you sell. We recommend confirming the setup with your tax advisor; we apply it in Shopify.

Multilingual SEO without duplicate content

Each language has its own URL, and Shopify adds hreflang tags that tell Google which version to show each user. What usually goes wrong is everything else: untranslated titles, Spanish URLs inside the English version or collections that are empty in one language.

Before going live we review each language the way Google would and translate titles, descriptions and URL handles.

Frequently asked questions

What clients ask us most about Shopify agency in Barcelona.

Do you have an office in Barcelona?

No. We work remotely with brands across Spain, Barcelona included, and meetings are over video call. The process and the team are the same wherever you are.

Can my store be in Catalan?

Yes. Catalan can be added as a store language and translated with Translate & Adapt. Before we start, we review which text Shopify translates out of the box and which needs to be translated by hand.

Do I need one store per country?

Usually not. With Markets, a single store serves several countries. Multiple stores pay off when each country has its own catalog, team or design, and that usually leads to Shopify Plus.

Is automatic translation good enough?

It works as a starting point. For product pages and brand copy we recommend reviewing it, because that's what customers read before they buy.

How much does a multilingual Shopify store cost?

It depends on the number of languages, markets and templates, and on whether you provide the translations. After the video call we send you a proposal with a fixed price in writing.

Can I charge in pounds or dollars?

Yes. With Shopify Payments and Markets, customers see and pay in their own currency in the markets you activate. We help you set up which currencies to accept.

What if my store is already translated with another app?

We check how it stores translations. If they're stored in Shopify, they carry over; if not, we plan the move to Translate & Adapt without losing the URLs that already rank.
