Domain and email
Connect your domain in Settings > Domains and set it as primary, so the myshopify.com domain redirects to it. Check that both the www and non-www versions lead to the same address and that the SSL certificate is active.
If your email is hosted with the same provider as your domain, do not touch the MX records when you change the DNS. Also set up the store's sender email and authenticate the domain following Shopify's instructions, so order emails do not end up in spam.
Payments
Shopify Payments is available in Spain and lets you accept cards and other methods without an external gateway. If you use another provider, such as a bank gateway, check that it integrates with Shopify. Review which payment methods the checkout shows and whether they suit your customers.
Fees depend on your plan and the payment method; check the current figures at shopify.com/pricing rather than relying on old comparisons. Also verify your company details, the bank account for payouts and the name that will appear on the customer's card statement.
Taxes
In Settings > Taxes and duties you define how IVA (Spanish VAT) is calculated and whether your catalog prices include it. In Spain, B2C stores usually show prices with IVA included, but the exact setup depends on your business and your products.
Some situations need a specific review: products with reduced rates, sales to other EU countries, shipping to the Canary Islands, Ceuta or Melilla, or sales to businesses. Set up taxes with your tax advisor and validate a couple of test orders with them before you open.
Shipping and returns
In Settings > Shipping and delivery, create the zones you ship to and their rates: flat, weight-based or price-based, or carrier-calculated if your plan and carrier allow it. Make sure every physical product has a weight, because otherwise weight-based rates fail.
Also set up local pickup or local delivery if you offer them, and make your returns policy clear. If you use a shipping label app or a third-party warehouse, run a full test: order, fulfillment, label and shipping notification with a tracking number.
Notification emails
In Settings > Notifications, review every email the customer receives: order confirmation, shipping confirmation, shipping update, refund, abandoned checkout and account activation. Each one should be in your language, with your logo, your colors and a tone consistent with your brand.
Send yourself a test of each template and read them on your phone. Check that the contact details, links and returns information are correct. It is something almost every launch leaves until the end.
Notification templates are edited with Liquid and HTML. If you change the code, save a copy of the original version before touching it and send yourself a new test after every change, because a mistake in a variable can leave the email without the order details.
Test orders
Place real test orders before you open. You can turn on Shopify Payments test mode or use Shopify's Bogus Gateway, and then place at least one real order with a card and refund it.
Test different combinations: a product with variants, a discount code, shipping to mainland Spain and to a zone with a different rate, and the returns process. Check the order in the admin, the email received and, if you have integrations, that the order reaches your ERP or warehouse.
Analytics, speed and basic SEO
Connect Google Analytics 4 through Shopify's Google & YouTube app, and the Meta app if you plan to advertise. Verify the store in Google Search Console and submit the sitemap (/sitemap.xml). Use each tool's preview to confirm it records visits and purchases.
For speed, compress images, uninstall apps you do not use and review the Core Web Vitals report once there is data. For basic SEO, fill in the titles and meta descriptions of the homepage, collections and main products, and add alt text to images. If you would rather have someone review it with you, every Weblineo project includes training and 30 days of support after launch.
Frequently asked questions
Can I set up the store without anyone seeing it?
Yes. While you work, the store can be password protected from the online store preferences. When everything is ready, you remove the password and the store goes live.
Are Shopify's legal templates enough in Spain?
They are a starting point, but they are not adapted to your company or to all Spanish regulations. Review and complete the texts with a legal advisor before publishing.
Does Shopify calculate IVA automatically?
Shopify calculates taxes based on the settings you define, but those settings have to be correct for your case. Review them with your tax advisor, especially if you sell outside mainland Spain.
How much does Shopify cost?
It depends on the plan and the payment methods. Current pricing is at shopify.com/pricing.
