Shopify Plus Partners and Premier Partners in Spain: what each tier means and who holds it

What Shopify partner tiers are

Shopify groups the partners in its directory into four tiers based on their experience and the size of merchants they typically work with. Its Help Center describes each one by the kind of business that typically prefers it.

It is not a technical certification passed through an exam, nor a quality guarantee for every project. It is Shopify's way of showing what size of client each partner usually works with. To know how an agency works, you still need to look at its stores and its references.

• Select Partner: typically preferred by small and medium businesses
• Plus Partner: typically preferred by mid-market and larger businesses
• Premier Partner: typically preferred by large enterprises
• Platinum Partner: typically preferred by global enterprise businesses

What changes in 2027

Shopify has announced that the Select, Plus and Premier tiers retire on 1 January 2027. From that day partners are recognized across four new tiers: Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. Until then, each partner keeps its current tier.

The new tiers are based on two requirements Shopify measures: the sales of the shops attributed to the partner, and the number of shops it has launched or transferred to a merchant. According to its Help Center, Silver requires $25K in attributed sales and one shop over one year; Gold, $5M and 5 shops; Platinum, $50M and 20 shops; and Diamond, $500M and 25 shops, these three measured over four years. A directory listing is a benefit from Silver upwards.

Shopify does not publish a mapping between the old and new tiers: each partner may go up, go down or stay the same depending on its data. That is why this article uses the tiers the directory showed on 7 November 2026.

Plus Partner is not the same as Shopify Plus

It is a common mix-up. Shopify Plus is Shopify's plan for larger businesses, with features such as checkout extensibility, native B2B selling and expansion stores. Plus Partner is a tier in the partner program. They share a name, but they are different things.

A Plus Partner does not only work on Shopify Plus stores, and a Select agency can have Shopify Plus experience. If your store is on Plus or you are about to move, ask the agency directly which Plus stores it has built and which Plus features it used.

Do you need a Plus or Premier Partner?

It depends on the size and complexity of your project, not on the prestige of the label. A brand that is starting out can be well served by a specialist Select Partner. A company with millions in revenue, selling in several countries and connecting Shopify to an ERP should demand proven experience with projects like that, whatever tier the agency holds.

Note also that tier and reviews do not always go together. In Spain there were Premier and Plus Partners with no reviews at all, and Select agencies with dozens. Reviews speak about service and results with real stores; tier speaks mostly about client size.

• Ask for live stores of a similar size to yours
• Ask which Shopify Plus features they have used: checkout, B2B, Markets, Flow
• Ask how they handle integrations with ERP, logistics or POS
• Ask for a fixed scope and price in writing
• Check that the code and the store stay in your account

Reviews and the directory from 9 November

On 9 November 2026 Shopify removes reviews, ratings and algorithmic ranking for every partner, and the listing becomes alphabetical. Each partner's tier will stay visible until the new 2027 tiers come in.
