Shopify store maintenance and support

Shopify takes care of the servers, security and platform updates, but your theme, apps and campaigns still need hands. With a maintenance plan you get a team that knows your store and handles changes without you having to explain everything each time.

This is for you if…

  • Every change to the store depends on finding someone who is free
  • You want new sections for campaigns without rebuilding the theme
  • You have installed apps and no longer know if they are used
  • Your team needs someone to ask when something doesn't work

What Shopify store maintenance covers

What a live store needs month after month, from a team that already knows your code.

  • Theme and template changes
  • New sections and blocks for campaigns
  • App and performance reviews
  • Theme updates when Shopify changes something
  • Help for your team with questions about the admin

New sections without rebuilding the store

A campaign landing page, a comparison table, a bundle block or a new product template. We build it as an editable section so your team can reuse it whenever they want.

Apps, speed and Shopify changes

We regularly review your installed apps and the code they leave in the theme, measure speed and adapt what is needed when Shopify changes something that affects your theme, as happened with Checkout Extensibility and the new customer accounts.

Stores we built and existing stores

Every store we launch includes 30 days of post-launch support. After that, maintenance is optional. If another team built your store, we can maintain it too, after reviewing the store to see what state the code is in.

How a Shopify maintenance plan gets started

  1. Video call

You tell us how you work, what you change often and what is hard today.

  2. Initial store review

If we didn't build it, we review the theme, apps and code before proposing anything.

  3. Fixed-price proposal

What the plan covers, how changes are requested and the price, in writing.

  4. Tested changes

We work on a copy of the theme and publish once it has been reviewed.

  5. Regular reviews

Apps, speed and Shopify changes that affect your theme.

A guide to maintaining a Shopify store

What Shopify maintains for you, what is still on you and how to organize it without living from one emergency to the next.

What Shopify maintains and what it doesn't

On Shopify there is no server to update and no plugins to patch for security: hosting, checkout and the platform itself are maintained by Shopify. That removes a large share of the work a WooCommerce or PrestaShop store demands.

What is still yours is the theme, the apps you install and the content. The theme is code, and like any code it needs changes, adjustments when Shopify introduces new features and someone who knows where to make edits without breaking something else.

The 30 days after launch

Every store we launch includes 30 days of post-launch support. That is when the real questions come up: an order that doesn't behave as expected, a section your team doesn't know how to set up or a tweak that only shows with real customers.

During those days we answer those questions and fix whatever is needed. After that, with training done, many stores carry on by themselves and others prefer a maintenance plan.

Apps and performance: the review nobody does

Apps get installed for a campaign and stay. Some leave code in the theme even after they are uninstalled. Over time the store loads more JavaScript than it needs and mobile speed suffers.

As part of maintenance we regularly review which apps are installed, what they do and whether they are used, and we measure Core Web Vitals to catch anything getting worse in time.

  • Unused or duplicate apps
  • Code left behind by uninstalled apps
  • Images and sections that weigh too much
  • LCP, INP and CLS on mobile

Maintaining a store another team built

Before committing to a store we didn't build, we review it: theme, Online Store version, apps, custom code and how sections are edited. That way we know what we are maintaining and can tell you if anything should be fixed first.

If the theme is in good shape, we keep building on it. If it has reached its limits, we explain why and look at a redesign or a new theme with you.

Frequently asked questions

What clients ask us most about Shopify maintenance.

Do I have to sign up for maintenance?

No. The stores we launch include 30 days of post-launch support and training so your team can work on its own. The maintenance plan is optional.

Do you maintain stores you didn't build?

Yes, after reviewing the store. We need to see the theme, the apps and any custom code before committing, so we know what we are maintaining.

How do I request a change?

You write to us with what you need and we confirm how we will handle it. Changes are tested before they go live on the store that sells.

How much does maintenance cost?

It depends on how often your store changes and what you need. After talking with you, we send a fixed-price proposal in writing.

What happens when Shopify changes something that affects my theme?

We review it and adapt the theme. With a maintenance plan it is covered by what we agreed; without one, we quote it as a one-off job.

Do you handle emergencies if the store stops working?

If you have a maintenance plan, issues that stop you from selling jump ahead of all other changes. The terms are set out in writing in the proposal.

Do you also train my team during maintenance?

Yes. If someone new joins your team or Shopify releases a new feature, we explain it on a video call.

Can I stop the maintenance whenever I want?

The code and the theme are yours, so you can carry on with your own team or another provider. The plan's terms are set out in the proposal.
