Migrate your store from Magento to Shopify

We migrate your Magento or Adobe Commerce store to Shopify while it keeps selling. We translate configurable products, attributes, store views and customer groups into Shopify building blocks, replace every extension and redirect every URL so you keep your rankings. All at a fixed price, in writing, before we start.

This is for you if…

  • Every Magento patch or upgrade breaks some extension
  • You rely on a PHP team just to keep the store running
  • You pay for servers, extensions and development and the store still isn't smooth
  • You want to switch platforms without losing what already ranks

What migrates from Magento

The data you need to sell on Shopify from day one.

  • Simple and configurable products, with images and stock
  • Customers, addresses and order history
  • CMS pages, blog and SEO metadata
  • Companies, catalogs and prices for your B2B channel
  • 301 redirects for every URL, including each store view

What doesn't migrate as is

Some parts of Magento have no direct equivalent, and it pays to know them before you start.

  • Customer passwords: Shopify doesn't allow importing them, so customers sign in with their email and a one-time code
  • Extensions and custom modules: replaced by native features, apps or custom code
  • Attribute sets: reorganized into metafields and metaobjects
  • Grouped and bundle products: handled product by product
  • URL structure: Shopify uses its own, and each old URL gets its 301

How your SEO is preserved

Magento often uses URLs with an .html suffix and category paths inside product URLs. On Shopify practically all of them change, so your SEO depends on the redirect map.

  • Complete map of product, category, CMS page and blog URLs
  • One 301 redirect per URL, including each store view and language
  • Meta titles, meta descriptions and alt text migrated
  • Sitemap in Search Console and indexing follow-up after the switch

Configurables, variants and attributes

A configurable product with its simple child products becomes a Shopify product with variants, each with its SKU, price, stock and image. Shopify allows up to 2,048 variants and three options per product, so if your configurables use more attributes, we decide which ones become options and how to handle the rest. Attributes that only describe the product become metafields that can be used as filters with Search & Discovery.

How we migrate your Magento store to Shopify

  1. Magento inventory

Product types, attributes, websites and store views, customer groups, price rules, extensions, integrations and every URL.

  2. Data, extension and URL map

Which part of Shopify receives each piece of data, what replaces each extension and where each old URL points.

  3. Migration to a development store

We import the data and build the theme on a store we create through Shopify Partners, while Magento keeps selling. At launch, ownership transfers to you.

  4. V1 review

We check variants, prices, customers, orders, B2B, languages and integrations with you.

  5. Domain switch and follow-up

We go live, submit the sitemap and monitor indexing in Search Console. We train your team and support you for 30 days.

Migrating from Magento to Shopify with an agency

What changes when you move from Magento or Adobe Commerce to Shopify and how we handle what has no direct equivalent.

Why stores leave Magento

The most common reason is the cost of running the platform. Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce need a server or a cloud plan, security patches, version upgrades that often break extensions and PHP developers with Magento experience on hand at all times. For many stores, upgrading to a recent version costs almost as much as switching platforms.

On Shopify, hosting, security, checkout and updates are Shopify's job. Your team stops spending hours on infrastructure and spends them on the catalog, campaigns and selling. In return, some things are done the Shopify way, and we tell you which ones before we start.

From the Magento catalog to Shopify

Configurable products become products with variants, and the attributes that define the configuration, such as size or color, become options. The remaining attributes go into metafields, grouped by product type, and repeated data such as manufacturers or material sheets goes into metaobjects.

Categories become collections. Since Shopify collections can't be nested, the hierarchy is recreated in the menu and with automated collections based on conditions. Grouped and bundle products are handled one by one with Shopify's bundles feature, an app or logic in the theme.

  • Configurables and simple children to a product with variants
  • Configuration attributes to options
  • Informational attributes to metafields and filters
  • Categories to collections and menu
  • Manufacturers and spec sheets to metaobjects

Store views, websites and B2B

If your store views are languages or countries of the same brand, Shopify handles them with Markets and Translate & Adapt inside one store, with subfolders or domains per market: one catalog, one inventory and translations linked to each product. If your websites are different brands or businesses, the usual route is independent stores, and on Shopify Plus they are managed from the same organization.

Magento customer groups and tier prices move to Shopify's B2B features: companies with their own catalogs, price lists, payment terms and quantity discounts. Cart price rules are rebuilt as discounts, and more complex logic is coded with Shopify Functions.

Extensions, integrations and SEO

We review every extension and custom module. Many cover things Shopify has built in, such as payments, shipping, sitemaps or discounts; others have a reliable app, and whatever is specific to your business is coded into the theme, with Checkout Extensibility on Plus or with a private app. Your ERP and other systems connect through an app or Shopify's Admin API.

For SEO we extract every Magento URL, including those ending in .html and those of each store view, and set up a 301 redirect for each one. If you want the technical detail, it is in our guide to migrating from Magento to Shopify.

Frequently asked questions

What clients ask us most about magento to Shopify migration.

Will my customers be able to sign in to their accounts?

Yes. We migrate their accounts with their addresses and history. Passwords can't be imported into Shopify, but with new customer accounts they sign in with their email and a one-time code.

What happens to my store views and websites?

If they are languages or countries of the same brand, they become one store with Shopify Markets and Translate & Adapt. If they are separate brands or businesses with their own catalogs, the usual route is independent stores, which on Shopify Plus are managed within the same organization.

Will I lose rankings when I leave Magento?

Not if the redirects are done properly. We map every URL, including each store view, and keep your titles and descriptions.

How long will the store be unable to sell?

Practically no time at all. We set up Shopify in parallel and switch the domain at the time of lowest traffic.

Can I migrate my old Magento orders?

Yes, with migration apps or through Shopify's API, because the admin CSV doesn't import orders. We look with you at whether you need the full history or whether a saved export for reference and accounting is enough.

Do I need Shopify Plus to migrate from Adobe Commerce?

Not necessarily. Plus makes sense if you need B2B without a catalog limit, checkout customization, several stores in one organization or high volume. Otherwise a standard plan may be enough.

What happens to my custom-built modules?

We analyze them one by one. Some are no longer needed because Shopify has that feature, others are replaced by an app, and the truly custom ones are rebuilt in the theme, in Functions or in a private app.

Can I migrate and redesign at the same time?

Yes, and it is usually the most efficient option: the structure, data and SEO work is done only once.
